Our History

On April 27, 1923, ten noble postal workers chartered what is Pioneer Valley Credit Union today under the name Springfield Mass Post Office Employees Credit Union to serve the United States Postal Service employees. The intent of its founders was to “promote thrift among its members and to make loans to its members for provident purposes.”

Pioneer Valley Credit Union was first located on Dwight Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. After, the Credit Union moved to Main Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. In October 1985, the main office relocated to Fiberloid Street at the new Bulk Mail Center. In 1991, the Credit Union changed its name to Pioneer Valley Credit Union to better encompass the members served and moved to its existing location on Brookdale Drive in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Pioneer Valley Credit Union expanded its membership in 2007 to serve Baystate Health, headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, that provides superior service in Western Massachusetts and the "Knowledge Corridor" region of Massachusetts and North-Central Connecticut.

In 2008, Westover Air Force Reserve Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts was made a new addition to Pioneer Valley Credit Union's field of membership. Not long after, in 2012, Savage Arms in Westfield, Massachusetts was also made as a great addition to its membership.

Pioneer Valley Credit Union is also a proud supporter of the American Consumer Council, which supports financial literacy throughout the United States. The Credit Union is also associated with Pioneer Valley Local First.

In 2019, construction for Pioneer Valley Credit Union's newest location in Springfield at 1954 Wilbraham Road in Springfield, Massachusetts had begun. In March of 2020, the new branch was established in a convenient location for its membership in the Sixteen Acres community.
